CTTC

The Chapter Technology Transfer Committee (CTTC) is a General Standing Committee of the Society, operating under the direction of the Board of Directors and Members Council. The CTTC’s mission is to facilitate the efficient and effective transfer of current and relevant information throughout the HVAC&R industry. To achieve this, the committee develops and maintains high-quality, readily available tools that enable chapters to offer informative and attractive industry-related information and programs to all target segments. The committee structure and membership are designed to support effective and enthusiastic activities by its volunteer members.

The responsibilities of the CTTC include coordinating the dissemination of technical and industry-related information to chapters, identifying and developing resources for programs and technical sessions for chapter use, and promoting continuing education activities at the chapter level. These activities include ASHRAE-developed programs, post-secondary educational programs, and chapter or industry-sponsored seminars. Additionally, the committee coordinates input from chapters on standards, publications, handbooks, and position papers/statements.

The CTTC is dedicated to enhancing the flow of knowledge and supporting the professional development of its members through these initiatives.

ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability within the industry. Through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment today. ASHRAE was formed as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers by the merger in 1959 of American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHAE) founded in 1894 and The American Society of Refrigerating Engineers (ASRE) founded in 1904.

In 2012, as part of a rebranding, ASHRAE began doing business as “ASHRAE” vs. using its full legal name of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Use of ASHRAE reflects the Society’s worldwide membership and that services will continue evolving globally.

The ASHRAE Hellenic Chapter’s charter was approved in 1999 by the Board of Directors of ASHRAE during the Annual Conference in Seattle, U.S.A. On April 16, 2000, the inaugural event of the Hellenic Chapter was held in a prominent hotel in Athens. In March 2003, the Hellenic Chapter was officially founded as a non-profit organization based in Athens. Since then, the ASHRAE Hellenic Chapter has aimed to transfer knowledge and technology throughout the entire Greek technical community. This includes educational and research institutions, engineering companies, technical companies, contractors, manufacturers, and any professionals interested in HVAC, renewable energies, and the building sector in general.

The first ASHRAE International Decarbonization Conference was hosted by the Hellenic Chapter and has since become an annual event.

The technical expertise of ASHRAE is concentrated in its Technical Committees (TCs), which consist of individuals recognized for their proficiency in specific fields of interest. TC 9.11 Clean Spaces focuses on air conditioning systems for cleanrooms and spaces, including process, product, and facility air conditioning, as well as related process ventilation for research and development, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and clean medical areas. This encompasses electronic, microelectronic, pharmaceutical, and aerospace facilities, along with operating rooms.

TC 9.11’s focus on clean rooms intersects with several technical areas supported by ASHRAE. These include fundamental issues such as load calculations, system sizing, and modeling; systems issues such as air filtration, airside systems, and hydronics; and application issues, including controls. The sensitivity of these spaces to airborne contaminants emphasizes the importance of filtration and precise air system sizing. Given that air volumes in these facilities are typically much higher than in comparably sized commercial spaces, owners must optimize their designs comprehensively. Consequently, TC 9.11’s research efforts concentrate on developing tools to aid engineers in design optimization. Currently, the primary focus of TC 9.11’s research plan is on developing modeling tools to assist design professionals in validating their assumptions and advancing the state-of-the-art in clean space design.
